WHAT IS MUSIC THERAPY?

More than just a melody....

Music therapy is an evidence-based practice that utilizes music to reach individualized, non-musical goals. Research has revealed that while engaging in melody and rhythm, various parts of the brain "light up", assisting in the creation of new connections. These new connections allow for improvement in an individual's areas of growth and overall, quality of life.


During a typical music therapy session, you may see an individual learn to play instrument, supporting their fine motor and cognitive skills, or sing songs to address communication or speech goals. All this happens while using client-preferred materials that resound with them. Individuals can leave sessions feeling positively reinforced and confident in their abilities, while loved ones can leave encouraged about the potential and growth from services.
